Bring a Kids Win Community Meeting to Your Town

At our first Kids Win Wisconsin community meeting, families were shocked.

When they saw Wisconsin's 4th grade reading data, they learned that only 31% of students are reading proficiently. The numbers are even lower for Hispanic students (20%) and Black students (8%).*

Many parents had no idea.

But they were relieved to learn there are things they can do right now. Families explored their local school data in the Literacy Tool, used the Readiness Roadmap to understand whether their child is on track, and left with practical tools to support reading this summer and partner with their schools throughout the year.

What families appreciated most was finally being able to see and understand the data for themselves.

For the first time, many parents could easily find and understand how students in their local schools are performing. The data wasn't hidden in complicated reports or buried on a government website. It was transparent, accessible, and easy to understand.

Many families were shocked by what they learned. But they were also grateful to finally have clear information and practical tools they could use to help their children succeed.

And once families saw the data, they wanted to act.

They shared their stories. They connected with one another. And they asked:

"How can we help?"

"How can we spread the word?"

"How can we make sure more families know this?"

That's exactly how change happens.

Families don't need more excuses. They need honest information, clear data, and practical tools.

When families have those things, they act. And when families act together, systems can change.

As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

That's why Kids Win Wisconsin is bringing community meetings across the state. Our goal is to visit every region of Wisconsin and build a network of Kids Win Champions—parents, grandparents, educators, and community leaders committed to ensuring every family has access to the information and tools they need to help their children succeed.

We can change this reality. But it will take all of us.

Our kids are only young once. They can't wait.
